Designed for young children and families, Your Place and Mine is an interactive fold-out guide introducing the Sainsbury Centre Gallery and its collections. It encourages discovery through written prompts and playful illustrations. A key feature of the guide is the die-cut viewfinder, which acts as a playful tool to help young visitors focus their attention on details they might otherwise overlook. By physically framing objects, patterns, and architectural elements, the viewfinder encourages a more immersive and interactive exploration of the gallery space.
During the design process, I carefully considered its size, shape, and placement within the guide to ensure it was easy for small hands to use. I tested the die-cut design and paper stock for durability, optimising the sizing to fit on an A3 sheet for more cost-effective production.
The illustrated map is designed to point out key areas for families in an engaging way.
The guide incorporates prompts that encourage children to experiment with perspective—asking them to view objects up close, from a distance, or through the viewfinder itself to notice hidden details, shapes, and compositions within the gallery environment. This approach transforms the museum visit into an active and engaging experience, helping families connect with the space.
