Bread and a Girl was exhibited at Fairhurst Gallery in 2021, featuring a series of paintings by Jess Burgess.
Adopting collage style compositions reminiscent of both high end fashion editorials as well as the Instagram profile grid, the posed figures evoke concerns of perception and presentation. The rich, enticing desserts are in both comparison and conflict with the models.
The design for this catalogue was directly inspired by the vernacular of editorial fashion magazines, adopting a column text layout and a mixture of full-bleed pages in which the paintings are treated like fashion models. The publication was produced as a magazine, using glossy, high-quality paper stock.
